It takes time to get to know your neighbors. How long have we been on the block?

Community Shop Class has been located on Stockton Blvd since 2021 but was reborn as a not-for-profit neighborhood learning center in August of 2022.

Since then, we have been providing the citizens of Oak Park with tools, classes, events, and opportunities to enter the trades with hands-on experience.

Great space! Wonderful neighborhood resource. They host the Oak Park Fix-It-Cafe every second Saturday 11-2pm. The trips for kids bike shop is next door (they fix up and give away kid bikes!!)

This is a WONDERFUL place–you can be creative, productive, or just surround yourself with cool ideas and nice people. If you want to make something, get some inspiration, learn a new skill or do some coworking, this spot is a unique, colorful, well-thought-out place to do it.

Jarrod Fischer

He came with great energy and excitement- willingness to engage. Could be more organized to speed up the process of getting hands on work with the tool and building.

Americorps Trainee

Wonderful shop to fix and learn about all kinds of trades and skills. Wood, leather, metal, clay.. any material you can think of, there’s an expert that can teach or guide you or creating something excellent!

Loved this workshop!!! Chad and his crew were so welcoming, encouraging, and passionate. I learned a lot and would highly recommend making this a continual workshop next year.

Wow what a resource. So glad that one of the members is an artist and held a neighborhood art opening for her gallery. We learned all about the other learning that one can do there and services they give to youth. Wish I had had access to something like this when I was young.

The experience was very comfortable as the layout made the environment familiar like home. As someone that needs a guide towards gaining confidence with a skill, the instructor was attentive towards assuring that I learned through this. While showing that the tools could be fun rather than treacherous, they showed this through the assurance of the safety measures that allow tools to be used proactively.
